Today we stopped on our way to Rome at Caserta, a little town that has a Royal Palace and gardens that span several miles. We explored the palace and I was assigned to look for patterns that I can incorporate into my paper making designs.
I took many pictures, and the most incredible part was seeing the beautiful paintings and furniture in the palace combined with an art exhibit they had set up that included modern artists like 3 warhol screen prints and a Rauchenberg among other people! Spivey and I freaked! The warhol’s were worth 4 billion!
We got tired quickly in the gardens so Caroline, Mary, Sarah Ann and I all went to explore Caserta and ate lunch at a place called Las Vegas with Coca-Cola tables. We were craving a salad and it was nice to sit for several hours. We met up with Taylor, because it was her birthday and played cards at those classic Italian tables that are covered outside a little gelato shope. It was quintessentially post-cardesque. Finally back on the busses I journaled a little and passed out, but we arrived in Rome in good fasion and needless to say, I was excited to be in a city that I’d at least heard of and that had good shopping, food and night life and art that was most famous of all. This hotel was much nicer, and 4 of us split internet for the 3 days. We had a 2 hour dinner tonight that was the same timeline but much better than the previous meals. Everyone sat out on this rockey patio after dinner and we decided to go into Rome to explore. We took the bus and it took us 2 hours to find it, but we found this center of bars, including “The Drunken Ship” an American bar! The bar tenders were very jersey shore and their drink special was called “The Sunken Ship” but it was a good time. I met a boy from Missouri and he gave me his map of the city with all the best places circled – thank you!
Tomorrow we’re going in town again with the group. Rome at night is FANTASTIC, so I hope in the day it’s magical as well.
